Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the programs held?

The scout programs are held on the campus of the California Science Center in the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation. It is about a five minute walk from the main building of the Science Center, next to the former Air and Space Gallery.

Are adult chaperones required?

Yes, each scout group is required to have scout leaders or chaperones present. Please follow scout organization recommendations for scout-to-chaperone ratios, or see the next question for Science Center recommended ratios.

How many adults may come with the scouts?

The recommended ratio is one adult per six scouts. There is no charge for adults, but as class space is limited, some adults may be asked to wait in the Big Lab for the duration of the activities if a classroom becomes overcrowded.

Do we need to bring anything?

No, everything needed to complete to the requirements will be provided.

Will badges be given out after completing the session?

Please refer to the cost of your program. If a program includes a badge, then badges will be provided after the session. If a badge fee is not included, badges will need to be ordered through the scout organizations.

How much is parking?

Parking in Exposition Park is $10 per car. Limited street parking is available around the park.

What can siblings or other family members do when the scouts are in the Big Lab?

The California Science Center will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM. As long as there is an adult to accompany any children, they are free to visit the main part of the museum.

Are lunches or snacks provided?

No. Programs are 2.5 hours long, and do not include lunch or snack time. Participants should plan to eat before or after program times. Food may be purchased at the on-site Trimana restaurants.
