Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief Projectionist, the Projectionist has responsibility to insure the proper operation, maintenance and care of IMAX projection and theater sound system, slide projector, film prints and trailers, theater lighting system, rewind room equipment and all other equipment and assets used in conjunction with projection room activities.  Must arrive ready to work at least 90 minutes prior to first scheduled show (before/after hours screenings require different arrival times depending on the state of readiness of the materials).  Prep work for screenings shall be coordinated through the Chief Projectionist.  At management’s discretion, the Projectionist may be required to perform other duties as defined.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow all IMAX Corporation guidelines regarding equipment handling and operating procedures.
  • Each print and soundtrack must be loaded according to show schedule while checking all work carefully to ensure proper synchronization of both 2D and 3D presentations.  Orientation of polarizer must be checked to conform to 2D or 3D requirements.
  • Projectionist must maintain an open dialogue via the phone and/or in-house communication system with Guest Services staff including Operations Managers, Floor Managers, Leads, and Box Office staff regarding the status of arriving guests/groups.  Accommodate requests to hold the show start as long as the schedule permits.
  • After starting the presentation it must be monitored to ensure a clean and well-focused image.  Sound level may need adjustment depending on audience size.
  • At prescribed intervals, take the required readings and enter into the projection log.  This includes amperage, voltage.
  • At the completion of each IMAX Presentation raise house lights to preset level set for the theater unloading.  Transition to house music and slide projector mode before repeating start-up procedure.
  • Report any technical crisis to the Chief and as well as IMAX Corporation.
  • Keep a clean and organized booth by following maintenance checklist in the daily log.
  • Return, or if appropriate, discard old film prints, trailers and sound tracks.

Oversee Revenue Producing Rewind and Special Screening Program

  • Accurately record client use of rewind room and special screenings for billing purposes.
  • Report problems or client related issues to Chief Projectionist for resolution.

Insure Quality Presentation of Films, Slide Shows etc.

  • Take necessary steps to ensure that all theatrical elements included in our show, presentation to guests including films, trailers, sound, slides, pre-show demonstrations etc. is of the highest quality.

Record Keeping

  • Keep all projection department related paperwork updated, neat and well organized.

Support Goals and Objectives of California Science Center

  • Consistently adhere to the rules, regulations, policies and procedures established for the CSC.
  • Pursue the goals and objectives articulated by senior management.  Adhere and fulfill the “Cultural Values and Principles” guidelines as outlined.
  • Take an active role in the total quality improvement of the CSC.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Laser Projection experience preferred but not required
  • Confidence in solving technical problems in stressful situations.
  • Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Must be able to lift heavy loads with minimal or no assistance.

Salary:

$13.75 an hour.
