Georgina Diaz Director of Guest Services & IMAX Operations California Science Center

Biography

For over 18 years, Georgina Diaz has dedicated her professional career to the non-profit management sector. Since September 2009, she has served at the California Science Center, initially as Volunteer Manager, promoted in 2013 to Director of Guest Services & IMAX Operations. During her time as the Science Center’s Volunteer Manager, Georgina was instrumental in tripling the number of active volunteers, while leading efforts to develop and grow the Living Collections and Air & Space volunteer programs. Georgina spearheaded volunteer efforts for Mission 26: The Big Endeavour, Space Shuttle Endeavour’s 3-day transport from LAX to the California Science Center. She collaborated with numerous government agencies and recruited and managed the over 600 volunteers who served during the shuttle’s final voyage through city streets. As Director of Guest Services & IMAX Operations, she oversees the Science Center’s largest department and ensures that the over 2 million guests who annually visit the museum are inspired and stimulated by the exhibits and that they have a seamless and memorable experience.  

Prior to joining the California Science Center, Georgina served as Director of Program & Volunteer Services at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. In said capacity, she managed an annual $2 million budget and oversaw the granting of over 3,500 wishes for children living with life-threatening medical conditions. While at Make-A-Wish, she played an integral role in the development and execution of the annual Season-of-Wishes holiday campaign, which continues to raise awareness and funds for the wish granting organization.  

Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Georgina immigrated with her family to the United States when she was a year old. Having grown up in South Los Angeles, she is a graduate of Manual Arts High School and in earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from Pomona College in Claremont, California. Georgina has always demonstrated a passion for science learning and service to others. She currently resides in South Gate, California with her husband and son. She enjoys spending time with her parents, siblings and traveling on the road with her favorite Mexican band, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon.
