Flight Team Interns

Join our team to stimulate curiosity and science learning among guests of all ages at the California Science Center! The Flight Team program is an 11-week paid internship during Summer 2025, with part-time work beginning in May and full-time work beginning in mid-June. Flight Team Interns will engage in hands-on activities about the science and engineering of flight and explore careers in the aviation industry. This program was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Vera R. Campbell Foundation.

How to qualify for the program

The Flight Team program is designed for high school students entering 11th-12th grade in the Fall 2024 who attend Math, Science, & Technology Magnet Academy, Theodore Roosevelt High School, or Felicitas & Gonzalo Mendez High School.

Prospective applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA. Additionally, because this program requires interns to become employees of the California Science Center Foundation, interns must acquire a work permit through their high school and be able to work in the United States.

What will I do?

Flight Team Interns will engage in eight weeks of high-quality science enrichment experiences including:

  • Exploring aviation careers & interacting with professionals in the field.
  • Carrying out hands-on activities about the science & engineering of flight.
  • Serving as a facilitator, initiating contact with guests to enrich their Science Center visit.
  • Gaining first-hand flying experience on a commercial flight.

Application

The Flight Team Intern program is a paid internship. Because of that, interested high school students will need to apply for this program. The program is competitive—carefully review the qualifications and submit your completed application before the deadline.

Please submit all application materials to the Foundation Human Resources Department. Submission instructions can be found in the application. 

The deadline to submit applications is Friday April 4, 2025 at 5 PM.

Qualifications

  • Must be a rising high school junior or senior (classes of 2026 and 2027) with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
  • Applicants must attend Math, Science, & Technology Magnet Academy, Felicitas & Gonzalo Mendez High School OR Theodore Roosevelt High School.
  • Applicants must have an interest or passion for airplanes, aviation, or flight-related fields. 
  • Excited to learn and help others learn in a formal and informal setting.
  • Ability to follow directions and be a team player. 
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude and strong work ethic. 
  • Available to work part-time on weekends from May 24th – June 14th for 7 hours a week.
  • Available to work full-time on weekdays from June 16th – August 8th for 35 hours a week.

Compensation

$17.87/hour
