Next Generation Science Standards Summer Institute

The California Science Center is offering an intensive, interactive 5-day summer institute that will train district stakeholders on the Next Generation Science Standards and introduce a toolkit to evaluate California-approved NGSS curricula as your district begins the tedious task of adoption. 

  • Participate in a learning experience demonstrating NGSS Instructional Shifts
  • Preview a library of California-approved curricula
  • Prepare to analyze and evaluate instructional materials for NGSS alignment based on key criteria to meet district needs
  • Take a deep dive into the Paper Screen phase of the state adoption TIME process (Toolkit for Instructional Materials Evaluation)

Who: District Administrators, Principals, K-8 Teachers, TOSAs/Coaches, Science Specialists (District teams of 3+ recommended)

When: July 29 - August 2, 2019, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Fee: $500 per participant. Group Discount for groups of 3 or more - $400 per participant 

  • (Fee includes take-home NGSS e-resources, light breakfast and lunch, parking, and a special California Science Center exhibit experience)

Phenomenon-Based NGSS Lesson Sequences for K-5 classrooms: NGSS in Practice

Transitioning to NGSS? Want to move beyond the basics? In this series of workshops sponsored by the CSULB Science Education Department, let the California Science Center Professional Development team support you as you explore a NGSS lesson sequence specific to your grade level. You will receive all the resources you need to guide students through a 3-Dimensional learning sequence that offers opportunities to practice skills such as constructing explanations of phenomena, planning and carrying out investigations, and engaging in argument with peers. Experience the impact of interactive science notebooks as a tool for integrating reading, writing, speaking, listening, and sense-making into science time. Lunch will be provided.

Next Generation Science Standards 101 for TK-5th Grade Teachers

Join us for a unique Hands-On professional learning experience! Participants will walk away with a basic understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards as you DO the Science & Engineering Practices, UNDERSTAND the Disciplinary Core Ideas, and CONNECT ideas with the Crosscutting Concepts. You will explore and experience the Engineering Design Process and leave with resources and ideas you can implement immediately!

Elementary Science Partnership Series

A California Science Center NGSS Professional Development Opportunity

The California Science Center Foundation is offering an intensive, interactive partnership program that provides the opportunity for individual schools, entire districts, or networks of schools to increase familiarity with the NGSS and provide a basis for planning instruction around the new standards in advance of upcoming assessments and state-wide realization.
